What is AN initial Enrollment Period?
When you turn 65 you’ll have your Initial Enrollment Period. This begins three months before and three months after the month of your 65th birthday. You have a 7 month window to elect Medicare part B. If you are still working and have coverage at work and choose to stay with employer coverage make sure you compare benefits with one of our agents to get the coverage at the price you can afford.
What is an Open Enrollment Period and when does it start?
The Open Enrollment Period takes place once a year, October 15th – December 7th.
During OEP you could change your health plan coverage and your doctor without penalty. If a person is satisfied with their plan, they don't need to do anything.
Is the Open Enrollment Period the only time that I can change my health plan options?
In most cases, the fall Open Enrollment Period (OEP) is the only time you can pick a new Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan, so be sure to review your options.
Some individuals may qualify for a SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD… How?
If you have certain life changes during the year you may be able to switch your Medicare coverage. Such as:
- Retiring or lost your employer coverage?
- Moved out of your current plan service area?
- Have you been diagnosed with a certain qualifying disabilities or chronic health condition?
- Receiving state assistance through the Medicaid program?

Are you able to disenroll from your plan?
Yes, January 1 through February 14, you may disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to original Medicare and a prescription drug plan.
